   Centre for Deaf Children

   The Deaf and Mute Community Centre in the diocese of Luang Prabang in Laos, is run by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Jeanne-Antide Thouret. The centre aims to guide children with disability to find independence, gain confidence and a sense of service for others, and prepare them for finding employment as an adult to support themselves and their families.

   Emergency Relief - Sri Lanka

   At the start of 2022, Sri Lanka entered a period of economic and political crisis which has seen prices for essential goods and services soar. Depleted foreign reserves and soaring inflation have devastated Sri Lanka’s economy in recent months. The pandemic and the war in Ukraine have only made the situation worse. Food prices rose by 80% in June alone. With fuel and gas shortages, and daily power cuts, families are unable to travel to buy fresh food or prepare hot meals.

   In north-western Papua New Guinea, St Charles Borromeo Major Seminary offers men who have heard and accepted their calling to the priesthood the formation and education to become priests for their communities.

   Lideta Scholarship Program

   The scholarship program for students at Lideta Catholic Cathedral School (LCCS) continues to provide support for the children of families who cannot afford to attend school. The scholarship program provides an opportunity for those students, when they graduate, to significantly improve the standard of living for themselves and their families.

   Work with Communities

   Kidist Mariam Pastoral Centre (Phase II)

   Many women in Ethiopia, especially those in rural areas, are struggling against economic challenges, social dependency on men, and lack of education. Employment opportunities are very limited; young women who drop out of school may not have the skills required to get a job or create their own career. To bring about change for these women and their families, it is vital that demand-oriented technical and vocational training programs, and the provision of practical education are available to the community.

   Education for Young Women

   In 2006, the Salesian Sisters initiated a project to support rural communities from different ethnic groups in mountainous north-eastern Thailand. The project aimed to provide girls with equitable access to quality education not available to them at home due to the remoteness of their villages.

   Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School

   Our Lady Queen of Martyrs (OLQM)) Secondary School operates out of a Diocese-run primary school site that was shut down in 1975 due to lack of funding. Since that time there has been no Catholic education in the area.

   Work with Communities

   Mother & Baby Home

   Opened in 1972, the Mother and Baby Home (locally known as Baan Sukruthai) offers a temporary refuge for women from all parts of Thailand. Currently supporting 16 mothers, the Home provides accommodation, nourishing food, and other personal necessities to mothers and their children until they are able to return to their homes (if possible) or stand on their own.

   Kindergarten Centre

   Born out of necessity, the Kindergarten Centre was created as a safe place for the children of women who attended the Fatima Training Centre (FTC), another Catholic Mission-supported project. The Kindergarten Centre allows mothers to be assured their children were taken care of while they are working.
