The Immersion begins by flying into Manila, followed by a domestic flight to Bacolod. This is where we will spend the next 7-8 days being with and sharing with the local students and community our lives and Catholic faith.
An immersion in Bacolod offers a relational and community-centred experience shaped by hospitality,
collaboration and shared faith. Grounded in Catholic Mission’s immersion philosophy, the journey is centred on encounter, accompaniment, reflection and solidarity, with a strong emphasis on mutual learning and building meaningful relationships with local communities.
The program is conducted in collaboration with a Catholic university, the local Catholic Church and a network of Catholic organisations involved in education, youth formation, social development and community outreach. Through these partnerships, participants gain an insight into how the Church works alongside communities in both rural and urban settings, responding to social and environmental challenges through an integrated approach to mission.
Participants will encounter a diverse range of communities and initiatives, including schools, parish communities, social enterprises, environmental projects and Indigenous communities. These experiences provide opportunities to learn about the different ways faith, culture and community come together to build resilience and create positive change.
A defining feature of the Bacolod immersion is the emphasis on relationship-building. Participants are encouraged to spend time with local people, share experiences, listen to their stories and learn from their perspectives. Rather than simply observing communities, participants are invited to enter into genuine encounters where mutual respect and shared experience become central to the learning process.
The immersion also highlights initiatives focused on cultural preservation, sustainable livelihoods, education and community development. Participants will explore how Catholic organisations and local communities work collaboratively to strengthen families, protect culture and the environment,
create sustainable opportunities and promote human dignity.
