In 2027, the Republic of Korea will be hosting World Youth Day. This provides a unique opportunity for Australian Youth to participate in an immersive experience ‘Mission Exposure’ within Asia (specifically Cambodia), before attending the traditional World Youth Day events in Korea.
Catholic Mission has a long history of successfully running immersions for both students and adults locally and internationally. Catholic Mission’s immersion program encourages participants to experience life, faith and justice from a new perspective, and to live a personal sense of their own Catholic “mission” when they return home.
Traditionally, a Catholic Mission Immersion is an educational program designed to provide youth with the experience of immersing themselves in a local community and culture, to gain an understanding and appreciation of cultures different from their own, viewed from a faith perspective. They spend time ‘being with’ the local people in their daily routines. The experience is designed to ‘be with’ others, listening and learning. We do not visit in order to help or ‘do for’ others. The experience is NOT designed around service work in the community. The actual day-to-day itinerary is developed in partnership with the hosting community. Catholic Mission commits to not overburden local people with our stay.
As this will be shorter than a traditional Catholic Mission Immersion, to differentiate the two, we will be calling this trip a Mission Exposure, as it provides an opportunity for the youth of Australia to get a glimpse into the reality of Catholics in a different culture and context. Catholic Mission will also be offering its normal immersion programs to Timor-Leste, Thailand, Mongolia, and the Philippines, before also heading off to World Youth Day in Korea.
