Outback Australia
This Outback Immersion in South Australia, offers participants a unique opportunity to encounter culture, community and Country while experiencing the extraordinary landscapes and realities of remote South Australia.
At the heart of the experience is an opportunity to learn from the Adnyamathanha people, with Elders leading participants on Country and sharing their knowledge, culture, stories and traditional skills. These encounters provide a deeper understanding of the enduring connection between Aboriginal people, Country, culture and community.
Participants will travel through the real Australian outback, visiting significant historical and natural locations that provide an insight into the beauty, history and challenges of remote Australia. Along the way, participants will experience the realities of life in isolated communities and encounter local people who work tirelessly to strengthen their communities and create opportunities for those who live there.
A key focus of the immersion is developing an understanding of the experiences and challenges faced by remote Aboriginal communities. Through pre-immersion workshops, visits to local services and meaningful engagement with community members, participants are encouraged to listen, ask questions and reflect on the realities of life in remote Australia.
Participants will visit a local health service and learn about the importance of health and community services in supporting people living in remote areas. They will also take part in activities alongside local people, creating opportunities for genuine interaction, shared experiences and mutual learning.
Our local immersion partners will provide an authentic perspective on life in a small and isolated community, including the challenges, strengths and opportunities that exist in regional and remote Australia. Participants will gain insight into the many career, education and social opportunities available and the important role individuals can play in contributing to the wellbeing of their community.
Throughout the immersion, participants are encouraged to look beyond the spectacular scenery and consider the people, stories, culture and realities that shape life in the Australian outback.
Through encounter, conversation and reflection, participants return home with a deeper appreciation of Aboriginal culture, remote communities and the importance of building respectful relationships and stronger communities.
