Catholic Mission is delighted to offer an Indigenous immersion experience to Alice Springs and Uluru, led by one of our trained Catholic Mission facilitators. The immersion has been developed through Catholic Mission’s engagement with the Arrernte people of Central Australia, with the OLSH Parish and local community welcoming participants in Alice Springs.
From the moment we arrive on Country, local hosts invite us to listen, learn and experience Indigenous culture through their stories, traditions and connection to the land. With sensitivity to ancient culture, while acknowledging more recent history and the realities of life today, participants are invited into a deeper understanding of Aboriginal Australia. Our time on Country provides opportunities to explore the landscape, visit significant places and discover the deep spiritual connection the Arrernte people have maintained with Country for thousands of years. Through stories shared by our hosts, we gain a deeper appreciation of the relationship between people, Country, culture and spirituality.
Participants will be encouraged to slow down, listen carefully and be present to the people and places we encounter. The immersion creates opportunities to learn directly from Aboriginal people, appreciate their knowledge and traditions, build relationships and reflect on what we are learning.
The immersion includes day trips to Tjoritja (West MacDonnell Ranges), Emily and Jessie Gaps and Simpsons Gap, before culminating in a journey to Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Weather permitting, participants will have the memorable experience of spending two nights sleeping under the stars, surrounded by the landscape and silence of Central Australia.
