Ukraine Emergency Relief Project Update

“The refugees are extraordinary people, accepting their situation and being ready to start a new life from zero. Strong people, trying to discern what to do every day, in a context in which you may not know when the war finishes.”

Fr Eugen
Project Director

This project is providing immediate and vital relief to those in need who make the 13+ hour drive (longer for those who cannot access a vehicle) to safety in Romania. Your generosity has helped Fr Eugen respond to the needs of a growing number of refugees entering Romania. They come traumatised and are so grateful for this support which includes providing full board, medicine, food and water, money and transport costs. Above all, they are provided with a safe place to begin the recovery process as they rebuild their lives. The continuing conflict in Ukraine impacts the cost of living in Romania, which continues to rise, making this project vital to the needs of the refugees there.

“The first who came it was Natali’s family. They arrived by car after three days journey. She came with her two years old baby, Emily, her brother, Denis, her mother, Tatiana, and with a small puppy pet, called Emy. There were so desperate, tired, and worried because the husbands and part of the family remained behind. Also, the grandmother, 86 years old. Natali’s husband and Tatiana’s husband were taken to war. They were so sad. All of them were living in the car for three days and were desperate to find a place to stay. So, they got my phone number form the JRS center and requested me to give them accommodation. All of them were under shock when they arrived here. Watching news and looking for information about the war.”

Gratitude and going slowly

Due to the fluid nature of things in-country and the unpredictability of war, we have gone slowly to ensure funds arrive to the right places and people. Fr Eugen and those he has helped so far are grateful for your generosity.

“It is important to spread love around us to make a better world. Hatred and violence and mistreating or not attending the needy people it is a big crime, crying to heaven. Beside this, I could see the readiness of Church and state institution or NGOs to help the refugees. At the same time, I can confess the truth that the abroad support, like the one from you and other institutions, was the spark of charity and the guarantee of taking commitment of offering continuous support to the refugees. May God bless your offers and all your benefactors for ever!”
