I try to be close, there is so much pain and fear in everyone's heart. What this earthquake has done is unbelievable. People's fear is stronger than when there was war.

Father Jacques Mourad, a Syrian monk now Archbishop of the Archieparchy of Homs

In the devastating earthquakes that struck Turkey (officially known as Türkiye) and Syria in February, countless people were injured and left homeless, while tens of thousands lost their lives. In their time of need, many mobilised to provide immediate assistance, including the Church.

Working through the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), Catholic Mission is partnering with missionary priests, religious sisters, and lay missionaries on the ground providing ongoing pastoral support and assistance to those impacted by the earthquakes. In time, the PMS will turn to rebuilding and repairing church structures.

“My message is an invitation to prayer and generosity, not only now, but also afterwards,” says Father Adrian Loza, OFM, National Director of the PMS in Turkey. “After the first moments, the second and third phases will start. From mourning to reconstruction. We will have to rebuild and repair many buildings and churches to serve the people, as well as help people move forward.”

Will you partner with missionary priests, religious sisters, lay missionaries and local workers as they bring hope and relief to those in need?

Catholic Mission will use donations to support the immediate and ongoing needs of our mission partners in Turkey and Syria following the devastating earthquakes. Any funds raised above and beyond the needs of our mission partners will support other similar Catholic Mission projects in areas of most need.
