Christmas Reflection

Catholic Mission’s 2021 Christmas Reflection is hosted in partnership with Catholic Education Western Australia Limited (CEWA) and is inspired by the words of Pope Francis, speaking on 2 December 2014, International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, Vatican-hosted ceremony for the signing of the Faith Leaders’ Universal Declaration Against Slavery:

https://www.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/speeches/2014/december/documents/papa-francesco_20141202_dichiarazione-schiavitu.html

“We call to action all people of faith, leaders, governments, businesses, all men and women of good will, to give their strong support and join in the action against modern slavery in all its forms. Sustained by the ideals of our confessions of faith and by our shared human values, we all can and must raise the standard of spiritual values, common effort and the vision of freedom to eradicate slavery from our planet.”

The event is entitled Let the Children be Heard: A Christmas Reflection on Modern Slavery and will explore the darker, yet hope-giving side of the Christmas narrative, to raise awareness and inspire action to counter the problem of modern slavery and human trafficking.

Proceeds from the Reflection will support Catholic Mission’s ongoing partnership with local and international congregations of religious sisters who work to protect vulnerable women and children, by providing education and vocational training opportunities.

The event will be live streamed and features readings and music conducted by Hugh Lydon with Stewart Smith from WAAPA on organ and the Aquinas College Schola Cantorum.

We wish to thank our key sponsors, who have made this Christmas event possible: the University of Notre Dame Australia, the Religious of the Good Shepherd WA, St John of God Health Care, Mercycare, the Presentation Sisters of WA, Iona Presentation College, the Aquinas College, the WA Catholic Migrant & Refugee Office, the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth, the Catenians, the Knights of the Southern Cross and Merus Sound.
