COVID-19 Relief in PNG
Project Location: Papua New Guinea
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a significant impact on the lives of millions of people around the world.
In Papua New Guinea, the COVID-19 infection rate is rising but thanks to your generosity Catholic Mission is there supporting and helping to protect communities against further spread of the coronavirus.
“In PNG, Coronavirus is reportedly spreading through community transmission. As the people of PNG live in a communal society, there is a fear of the disease spreading fast to other parts of the rural areas,” Says Fr. Victor Roche, former General-Secretary of the PNG Bishops Conference.
“To date, the National Control Centre has announced 13,361 people have been tested. Of total positive cases, 221 are from Port Moresby, 85 from Kiunga, and 17 cases are from other parts of the country. So far 107 people have recovered, three have died and 213 are being isolated and monitored.”
Catholic Mission is partnering with five dioceses in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea: Mount Hagen, Mendi, Kundiawa and Goroka, Catholic Mission, and through the COVID-19, vital PPE and testing equipment such as disposable face masks, hand sanitiser spray and infrared thermometers will be provided to rural communities to protect their communities against further infection.
Thanks to your generous support of the COVID-19 Appeal, Catholic Mission is also able to support and assist other communities around the world including the Eden Gardens Home in Nagaland, India, the Kidist Marian Pastoral Centre in Meki, Ethiopia, and the Good Shepherd Sisters in Bangkok and Bangladesh.
Catholic Mission thank you for your generosity and pray that you and your loved ones are staying safe and well.
