Village Space Daily – ’Rehabilitating Ugandan Child Soldiers’

Dramatised interactive theatre on the realities facing our youth in the developing world today and how others young people are following Christ and taking action.

Catholic Mission’s Village Space takes us to peoples and their communities in the majority, or developing world through the medium of interactive dramatised storytelling around justice issues.

Village Space at Catholic Mission Village will focus on the story of the struggles faced by ex-child soldiers in Uganda and the heavy crosses they bear every day of their lives.

It is important that people who have been silenced be empowered and affirmed by having their stories told, acknowledged and understood.

Due to the dramatic form, the participants easily empathise with the characters’ feelings of fear, anger, sadness and frustration, as well as determination and hope.

Empathy is the beginning of the participants’ motivation to work towards a just world.

Audience Involvement - The audience is immersed in the drama as it unfolds infront and all around them. There are moments where they are asked to be directly involved in the action by singing and moving. Some individuals are given
specific roles. In order that the drama happens around the participants, they are formed into a labyrinth and the actors perform within the spaces of the pathway.

Being missionary requires reaching out locally as well as globally. To reach out across cultures and overseas we must first be able to link arms with the person beside us.
