Catholic Mission launches a fresh, new-look logo coinciding with the beginning of Spring and a reminder of mission values leading into World Mission Month.
"'God reaching out' is central to the gospel-centred vision and values of Catholic Mission. For this reason, the logo retains the current image of the out-reaching hands." Catholic Mission's National Director Martin Teulan said.
The outstretched hands call to mind Michelangelo's fresco 'The Creation of Adam' on the ceiling of the Vatican's Sistine Chapel, and reinforce Catholic Mission's identity as a Pontifical organisation.
"The hands also symbolise people reaching out to others and each other, showing God at work through people" Mr Teulan said.
Catholic Mission works in 160 countries around the world reaching out to the unreached, the deserted and those left behind.
As Catholic missiologist, Stephen Bevans SVD says "Church does not so much have a mission as that the mission has a church. The Church is not about itself: it is about the Reign of God that it preaches, serves and witnesses to, and this makes all the difference. "
"God's mission is universal. That is what the word 'catholic' means, and he initiates it. God reaches out to all people offering life for all (refer John 3:16) and 'life to the full' (refer John 10:10)." said Mr Teulan.
"Catholic Mission's logo is red, a symbol of Christ's sacrifice for all people, making it possible for each person to have a relationship with God, their loving Creator" he said.
Spring is a perfect time to launch the updated logo, and a wonderful precursor to World Mission Month, in October, when every Catholic diocese around the world celebrates Mission. |
